The Oastbrook vineyard might be sleeping for the winter but there is never a dull moment at the estate as team leader and founder America Brewer makes final preparations for Christmas – her favourite time of year.
Autumn was spent preparing to unveil the newest 2015 vintage of Oastbrook Sparkling Rosé. On Wednesday 20th November, America welcomed wine friends and lovers of the south-east’s stunning countryside to a launch party at which she presented the second vintage of Oastbrook’s pink bubbles from Sussex. The hostess also served her still Pinot Gris 2018 and sparkling rosé from 2014 as everyone feasted on platters of local cheeses, sliced deli meats and fresh fruits.
Originally from Brazil herself, America entertained her guests with a showcase from dancers who also performed capoeira martial art sequences to musical beats. All this in Oastbrook’s part-built wine barn, which was prettily decorated in sparkles for the evening by the fantastic team at Mulberry Events.
As if this wasn’t exciting enough, Oastbrook has also been celebrating that English wine tourism has officially gone quirky! Held in October at The Grand Connaught Rooms, the eviivo Awards 2019 recognised the very best of the UK’s independent accommodation across eight categories… And the Hobbit House at Oastbrook picked up the eviivo Quirkiest Place To Stay Award!
The Judges said: “This magical property is decidedly the quirkiest of the bunch, with a theme related to an iconic story – yet it functions well as a cosy retreat for all the family. Guests marvel at the attention to detail at this whimsically designed property – raving in the reviews about the ‘hand forged keys’ and the attractiveness of the place.”
The judges especially liked the use of local wood throughout, the execution of the theme, and the plethora of activities for guests to enjoy.
